APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Three organizations have committed to locating in the proposed Fox Commons redevelopment of downtown Appleton’s City Center Plaza, developers say.
Dark Horse Development and Boldt say in a news release that Lawrence University, Mosaic Family Health, and Prevea Health have agreed to occupy parts of the space.
Lawrence University plans to put 190 beds of student housing in the development.
“For seniors, and perhaps some juniors, who desire to live off campus, it allows the blending of apartment-style living with the opportunity for collaboration and mentorship with the partner organizations,” university president Laurie Carter said in a news release. “Shared spaces within Fox Commons, for example, will allow students who are pursuing business and entrepreneurship and pre-health majors to study and work alongside organizations in their field of study.”
Mosaic Family Health would relocate its practice from its Morrison Street location to Fox Commons. Mosaic Family Health is owned by ThedaCare and Ascension.
Green Bay-based Prevea plans to add a location in the development. Services would include physical therapy, health and wellness services and behavioral care including counseling and psychiatric consultations.
Dark Horse and Boldt say there would still be 20,000 square feet of space available for lease on the ground floor.
Appleton’s Community and Economic Development Committee voted last month to approve the $33.5 million project. The city would contribute about $4.4 million, much of that through tax incremental financing.
The full Common Council is set to vote on the project on Wednesday.
The building opened as the Avenue Mall in 1987. It was rebranded to City Center Plaza in 2002.
