(WTAQ-WLUK) — Wisconsin communities and private well owners can now apply for PFAS testing through a newly opened application window backed by state funding.
A bipartisan effort this spring authorized $1 million for sampling potential “forever chemicals” in Wisconsin water sources. Municipalities can apply through the “Community Grants Sampling” program.
Private well owners can also apply for individual property testing at no cost to the applicant if their community is not planning to apply.
“The private well owner or user will complete a short application. And then DNR staff will verify the well’s eligibility,” said Jim Ritchie of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. “If eligible for sampling through WisPPWT, the state lab of hygiene will ship a collection kit to the residence.”
For municipalities interested in PFAS testing, leaders have through April 2027 to apply. The DNR said it expects to open additional windows for grant applications in the future.
