Porlier Pier in Green Bay (PC: Fox 11 Online)
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Porlier Pier along the Fox River, just south of downtown, will be removed, as the city approved a contract for its demolition.
The pier is at the base of Porlier Street, where it turns into Adams Street. It is adjacent to the Fox River Trail, on the east bank of the river. Most of the original railroad bridge, built in about 1900, was removed, and the current pedestrian pier was installed in 2005.
However, it was closed in 2022 after an engineering report deemed it unsafe.
The city has looked at repair and replacement options, but those were deemed too expensive. The council voted to remove the pier.
According to the agenda for the Parks Committee, that process is now moving forward.
“Porlier Pier removal bids have been awarded to the low bidder. The demolition of the structure will begin soon,” reads an item from the report of Parks Director Dan Ditscheit.
The winning bid was $242,660.90, by Zenith Tech, the city said.
The contract calls for the work to be completed by next August, according to the city.
The Parks Committee meets Wednesday at 5 p.m. in 207 of City Hall, 100 N. Jefferson St.
