OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Students at Carl Traeger Elementary School will have more room to learn and a new place to play with the addition of a new playground and four new classrooms.
The new rooms will expand the school’s capacity to 600 students for grades K through five next school year.
The playground and classrooms are part of Phase 2 of a four-phase plan in the Oshkosh Area School District’s effort to upgrade school buildings. The playground is fully accessible to accommodate children of all physical abilities.
Principal Kristin Burgert said the new playground will help students get the kind of play they need. “They can climb up and go down the slides enjoy and have that play that all students need to be able to have not only just be kids, but then to be able to be focused and go in to learn,” Burgert said.
Burgert added, “It’s really great for students to be able to play with their peers and connect with their peers.”
The district’s long-range facilities plan was approved by the school board in 2020. The Phase 2 additions were approved by voters in 2025 through a capital referendum.
