OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Between April and August, Oshkosh police say they seized 53 guns.
Officers say the seizures were part of an initiative focused on identifying and addressing people involved in unlawful firearm possession and firearm-related offenses. Police say they used community contacts, interviews and intelligence gathered during active investigations to make the recoveries and arrests.

- April: 10
- May: 13
- June: 12
- July: 14
- August: 4
In one case in May, police say a man pointed a gun at another vehicle. That man has since been indicted in federal court for weapons-related offenses.
In another case in August, a search warrant led to the arrest of a man who had a 9 mm handgun, an ounce of cocaine and 4 ounces of meth.
“The results achieved this summer reflect deliberate, thoughtful police work,” Police Chief Dean Smith said in a news release. “Our personnel are using information, partnerships, and proactive enforcement to remove unlawfully possessed firearms and firearms used in crimes from our community. Their continued commitment makes a meaningful difference for those who could be impacted by crime.” The Oshkosh Police Department will use all necessary legal means to reduce gun-related violence and crimes.
County, state and federal authorities all contributed to the gun seizures.
