(WTAQ-WLUK) — Four candidates running for the Democratic nomination in Wisconsin’s open governor’s race will be whittled down to one tonight.
Two candidates are seen as front-runners: Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley and State Rep. Francesca Hong.
Crowley is considered the moderate alternative to Hong.
He actually dropped out of this race on July 8, but re-entered just 10 days later. That came after Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez dropped out due to a campaign finance scandal.
He’s received endorsements from some of the key Democrats — the most notable being Gov. Tony Evers.
Crowley previously served in the state Assembly.
Meanwhile, Hong is at the top of many polls throughout the campaign.
The latest Marquette University Law School Poll showed Crowley trailing Hong by 31 percentage points. The poll showed Hong with 38% of support — an increase of 12 percentage points from the previous poll — while 34% of voters were undecided. Mandela Barnes had 16% support before dropping out, followed by David Crowley with 7%, Joel Brennan and Kelda Roys with 2%.
Hong is backed by the Democratic Socialists of America.
She’s been making recent headlines for her previous support of defunding the police and ending Thanksgiving. Hong has said she did not support the entire national DSA platform and backed off her earlier support for defunding the police.
Barnes, Rodriguez and Missy Hughes’ names were on the ballot as they ended their campaigns after ballots were printed.
The winner of tonight’s primary will go on to face presumptive Republican nominee Tom Tiffany in November.
