OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A dog died and a woman was hurt in a wrong-way crash on I-41 in Oshkosh.
Just after 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers were dispatched to a wrong way driver driving northbound in the southbound lanes of I-41 and Witzel Avenue.
While officers were enroute to intercept the wrong way vehicle, the vehicle had collided with a semi-truck resulting in blocking all three southbound lanes.
A 60-year-old Reedsburg woman was identified as the wrong way driver and was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries. The driver had her dog in the vehicle and the dog perished in the crash. A local animal hospital took custody of the deceased dog.
The driver of the semi-truck, a 53-year-old man, was not hurt.
The southbound lanes of I-41 were shut down for several hours while crews attempted to remove both vehicles and conducted cleanup of the highway.
It was reopened to traffic around 4:26 a.m. Thursday.
