MENOMINEE, Mich. (WLUK) – The body of a missing kayaker has been pulled from the Bay of Green Bay.
The kayaker was reported missing Friday night after not returning from a trip out on the water.
According to the Menominee Police Department, the individual has launched into the waters of Green Bay, near Veterans Memorial Park, Friday morning. When they didn’t return, as expected, they were reported missing.
An extensive search, including officers on foot, drones and boats searched the water.
At 11:46 p.m., the kayak was found after it washed ashore about a mile north of Veterans Memorial Park. Then, at 12:06 a.m. Saturday morning, members of the Menominee Fire Department searching by boat located the individual’s body underwater about several hundred yards offshore.
The incident remains under investigation, but authorities don’t suspect foul play.
The identify of the victim is not being released until family has been notified.
