APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A bridge over I-41 in Outagamie County is set to close next week.
WIS 47/Richmond Street in Appleton will be closed starting May 19 and lasting through fall, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced Monday. Northbound I-41 on and off-ramps are scheduled to close in late June and southbound I-41 on and off-ramps in mid-July, with both closures also lasting through fall.
Officials said the WIS 47/Richmond Street interchange will be reconstructed as a diverging diamond interchange to accommodate higher traffic volumes, increase safety and include additional bike and pedestrian accommodations. This work is part of the major I-41 project rebuilding and expanding 23 miles of I-41 from four lanes to six lanes between WIS 96 (Wisconsin Avenue) in Appleton and County F (Scheuring Road) in De Pere.
