MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A panel of judges Tuesday dismissed a lawsuit seeking to redraw Wisconsin’s Congressional districts, which claimed they are illegally gerrymandered.
It’s the second time the courts have dismissed such suits, saying a Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling means the courts can’t consider the lawsuits.
“The Wisconsin Supreme Court explored the topic in significant detail when it imposed the existing congressional map in 2022. At that time, the Court held that the partisan composition of electoral districts raises a non-justiciable political question, and that the state constitutional provisions at issue in this case say nothing about redistricting,” the ruling states.
The decision was issued by Dane County Judge David Conway, Marathon County Judge Michael Moran, and Portage County Judge Patricia Baker.
The ruling could be appealed to the Supreme Court, but even if the justices take the case, it’s uncertain if a ruling would be made in time to impact this November’s elections.
Currently, Republicans hold six of the eight congressional seats.
