WINNEBAGO COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — No charges will be filed in connection with what was investigated as a fatal drunken driving crash on New Year’s Day 2023, the Winnebago County District Attorney’s office said Monday.
Shanelle Hofacre was issued a citation for refusing to take an intoxication test after the crash, where Brandon Dodd was struck and killed by his pickup truck on Knott Road. Hofacre’s driver’s license was suspended for one year, court records show.
During the May 2023 hearing for the citation, a prosecutor said there was an “underlying homicidal review” which was underway.
On Monday, the district attorney’s office said: “There were no charges issued.”
No other details or reasoning for that decision were provided.
The crash happened about 4 a.m. on New Year’s Day in the town of Omro, according to the crash report.
A vehicle driven by Hofacre struck a pedestrian “near or on the roadway. The pedestrian was located deceased after being called in by a passerby. Operator of Unit 1 was located passed out due to alcohol consumption just up the road in a pole building with the keys to Unit 1 in her front jacket pocket. Operator of Unit 1 declined to provide her version of what happened,” the report states.
The roads were dry at the time, the reports states.
Although Hofacre was cited for refusing to take an intoxication test, a blood sample was obtained. Results were not cited in the report.
Dodd was listed as the owner of the vehicle that struck him.
