(WNFL) – There was heartbreak in Division 2 singles and doubles play for the Notre Dame Tritons at the WIAA boys state individual tennis tournament on Saturday.
In Division 2 singles, the Tritons’ Alex Thomas won his semifinal match Saturday morning, defeating Anderson Fortney of Aquinas 7-6 (5), 6-0.
Then game a grueling championship match Saturday afternoon.
Adrian Yin of powerful Brookfield Academy team defeated Thomas in a tie-breaker 11-9 after Yin won the first set 6-4 and Thomas won the second set 6-4,
Yin and Thomas were the No. 1 and 2 seeds in Division 2 singles.
In Division 2 doubles, Nate Carson and Finn Milleman of Catholic Memorial defeated Notre Dame’s Matt Gugluizza and Aiden Burich 7-6 (6), 6-4 in the championship match.
The Notre Dame duo had advanced to the championship match with a 7-6 (3), 6-2 win over Miles Gourlay and Jack Gilpin of University School-Milwaukee.
Carson and Milleman were the top-seeded doubles team. Gugluizza and Burich were seeded second.
