Festival Foods Fire Over the Fox!
GREEN BAY, WI – On Broadway, Inc. and the City of Green Bay have finalized plans for the Festival Foods Fire over the Fox event held each year in downtown Green Bay. On Broadway assumed event ownership and management responsibilities for the annual fireworks show and programming in 2018. The City of Green Bay remains a critical partner to ensure a safe and successful event for the entire community.
Plans were delayed as event organizers and city departments worked through covid protocols. Given the required time necessary to plan large events, and the timing of recent CDC announcements loosening outdoor event restrictions, this year’s event will be scaled down. Organizers were initially focused on a fireworks-only show but added some entertainment options following those CDC announcements.
This year’s event will close the Ray Nitschke Memorial Bridge (Main/Dousman Streets) at 4 p.m. One stage of live music is programmed 5 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. in Leicht Memorial Park thanks to the generous support of Festival Foods.
Jack FM presents: Eminence, who will play from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Johnny Wad, who will play from 7 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Several food trucks and a beverage tent will be on-hand at the event. There will be no kids play areas or entertainment as was the case in past years to encourage social distancing. Additional details will be promoted about programmed activity from neighboring businesses.
The fireworks will begin at approximately 9:45 p.m. WIXX will play programmed music to the fireworks and WFRV is expected to live broadcast the fireworks show.
VIP seating is available in Leicht Park along the river that includes a reserved seat (chair), prime viewing location, and access to private bathrooms. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online immediately at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/festival-foods-fire-over-the-fox-tickets-158633835071 or in-person at Festival Foods locations in Green Bay, De Pere and Suamico starting Thursday, June 17.
“We are excited to host Fire on the Fox in our downtown on July 4th to celebrate our nation’s founding,” said Mayor Eric Genrich. “It’s an event we look forward to every year, but this year’s celebration will be a particularly welcome sign of our community’s resurgence. We are grateful to Festival Foods and On Broadway for making this year’s event possible, and we are thrilled to celebrate Independence Day in the heart of our community once again.”
“As we continue to work through covid protocols we recognize this year’s event will not be the same as past years,” said Brian Johnson, executive director, On Broadway, Inc. “We hope it provides an opportunity for our community to reflect on the meaning of this special holiday while spending time with family and friends to celebrate the resiliency of our community in 2020. We look forward to planning a fully programmed event in 2022, given enough time to properly coordinate all of the complex pieces required for such a large-scale community event.”
