APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An improperly installed wood-burning stove was to blame for a fire that damaged a home in Appleton Wednesday, firefighters say.
The fire department says it was called to the 900 block of W. Glendale Avenue around 7:45 p.m. for a report of flames coming from the garage. Firefighters arrived to find light smoke visible. Crews went into the garage and discovered smoky conditions and charred walls surrounding a wood-burning stove.
The Appleton Fire Department reminds homeowners to follow manufacturer’s installation instructions for any appliance, use materials recommended in the owner’s manual and ensure that proper clearance is provided.
The fire department did not have an estimate for the damage to the house and its contents.
