GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Taylor Schabusiness is facing a mandatory life sentence following her conviction for the murder and dismemberment of Shad Thyrion.
The jury that heard four days of testimony, not only finding her guilty of the crimes, but also rejecting Schabusiness’ insanity plea.
Now convicted of murder, mutiliating a corpse and sexual assault, Taylor Schabusiness sits in the Brown County Jail awaiting her sentencing which has been set for September 26.
The 25-year old woman is facing a mandatory life sentence, but Judge Thomas Walsh could set a parole eligibility date at sentencing.
Schabusiness’ conviction comes after four days of testimony and two verdicts.
In the first phase of the trial, the jury found her guilty of killing, dismembering and sexually assaulting Shad Thyrion —
The second phase dealt with her mental state, the jury rejecting the defense claim Schabusiness was suffering from a mental disease or defect at the time of the crime.
It was back in February of 2022 when the mother of victim, Shad Thyrion, found her son’s head in a bucket in the basement of her Stony Brook Lane house.
During the trial the jury heard the 911 call made by the live-in boyfriend of Thyrion’s mom. The man said, “I have no clue what’s happening. My girl swears that she found the severed head of her son in the basement.”
Thyrion’s mom told investigators her son was last seen with Schabusiness — officers quickly tracking her down at an Eastman Avenue apartment complex.
Her arrest captured on police body cam and shown to the jury.
“Hi. Taylor, how’s it going? Officer Russell with the Green Bay Police Department. ” the officer was heard saying. “I’m with Taylor. Taylor we have a warrant for your arrest. Put your hands behind your back. You got blood on your hands here.”
As the jury saw, during the trial, Schabusiness confessed to the crimes. Her account of what happened playing out in videos of her interrogation with police. Schabusiness was heard telling detectives, “It’s weird. I was riding him like a donkey okay, I think so, and I think that’s what was happening. And I started pulling and I don’t know. I don’t know. And then I just didn’t stop. I don’t know why I just didn’t stop. I didn’t stop.”
Schabusiness, who back in February lashed out at her attorney during a pre-trial hearing, remained quiet and pretty emotionless during the trial. Even after her conviction was read and the jury rejected her insanity plea she quietly stood up, was handcuffed and taken to jail where she’ll sit until sentencing.
