CRIVITZ, WI (WTAQ) — “The Wall that Heals,” a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial that features the names of the 58,281 people who died serving our country in the Vietnam War, is in Crivitz at the Crivitz-Stephenson Area Museum beginning Wednesday afternoon through June 4 at 2 p.m.
The traveling memorial departed from Vandervest Harley-Davidson in Green Bay on Tuesday.
Several community events are planned at the wall:
- Thursday, June 1: 10 a.m. “Welcome Home” Opening Ceremony; Representative Jeff Mursau will emcee the
opening program, with remarks from Michele Rathke, Wisconsin VFW State Adjunct and featuring a Flag Folding
Ceremony. - Friday, June 2: 9 p.m. “Candlelight Vigil and Honor Roll Call” of area Vietnam Veterans accompanied by bagpipes
and taps. - Saturday, June 3: “Veteran Thank You Day”; Vietnam Veteran recognition moments at The Wall at 11:30 a.m.
and 4 p.m. - Sunday, June 4: 12:30 p.m. “Honoring Heroes” Closing Ceremony with remarks by Crivitz High School graduate
and Air Force veteran Kenneth Corry and featuring The Missing Man Table Ceremony and Flag Folding
Ceremony.
The Wall that Heals also features a mobile education center.
“People can learn more about the timeline, and the history of not only the war, but how the war memorial came together,” said Rebecca Deschane, co-chair of The Wall That Heals Comes to Crivitz committee.
The wall is free, and is open 24 hours a day through it’s time in Crivitz.
