GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Over 10,000 original artifacts of Black memorabilia were on display in Green Bay Monday. But the collection is on the move, as it heads to Appleton for Tuesday.
The Black History 101 Mobile Museum features artifacts dating from the trans-Atlantic slave trade era to more recent hip-hop culture. The museum touches on topics ranging from slavery to politics to sports.
The mobile museum was on display for employees at Associated Bank in Green Bay Monday, but it will be open to the public when it travels to Appleton Tuesday.
The mobile museum was intended to educate staff during Black History Month, according to Associated Bank’s Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Callie Davis.
She says the bank likes to bring in speakers and other educational opportunities for staff. And with the mobile museum, they truly got the chance to get up close with aspects of history.
Davis says displays like the mobile museum are important because it provides a more expansive view on history.
“A lot of times when we talk about history, not all history is shared. So, we want to talk about the good, the bad, the celebrations and really open our colleagues’ eyes to different things that have happened and really increase their exposure,” she said.
The mobile museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday in Lawrence University’s Warch Campus Center.
