GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — “Blackout Wednesday” comes the day before Thanksgiving. College kids and other travelers are home for the weekend and connect with friends, usually over heavy alcohol consumption.
Blackout Wednesday can come with serious consequences such as passing out, drunk driving, assault, alcohol related injuries, and more.
“Staying alive is the best choice, and spend the day with your family.” said Jason Latva, Executive Director of the Jackie Nitschke Center. “Not in a jail cell or a hospital.”
Latva says in some parts of the country, Blackout Wednesday has heavier alcohol consumption than New Years or St. Patrick’s Day. Families can be mindful of those who may struggle with alcohol addiction by hosting activities that do not revolve around alcohol.
