GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Green Bay community is gathering together to mourn the death of a 5-year-old after she was shot Monday night.
Community members, family and friends came together Tuesday night, lighting candles in memory of the little girl, named Skye.
The gathering was outside the Amy Street home, on the city’s east side, where police say she was fatally shot.
Skye died after being taken to the hospital, according to police.
“I just want answers,” said Kayla Evans, Skye’s mother. “I want answers for my baby, my best buddy. My all, my one and only, my everything.”
Evans poured her heart out during the vigil, explaining her daughter’s death comes two years after she lost her mother and a year after she lost her sister.
“I never get to hear ‘mommy, I love you more than the whole wide world,’” said Evans. “That was my best friend, my right hand.”
Evans and her family want the community to know that they want justice. They believe that can happen by helping police find the person of interest in the case, Jordan Leavy-Carter.
“She was robbed of her life,” said Mika Evans, Skye’s aunt. “It’s not right. She had her whole life ahead of her. The family wants justice. I’m pretty sure the community wants justice. This is a child.”
“She wanted to do everything,” said Kayla Evans. “She wanted to do makeup. She wanted to be a doctor. She can’t. I won’t see my buddy take her 1st grade pictures, her 4th grade pictures, her middle school pictures, her prom. Nothing.”
Police are looking to speak with Carter, the person of interest in the case. The 35-year-old is believed to be driving a dark green Mercury Milan car that has front-end damage and a license plate number AHT-7886.
Anyone with information on Carter’s whereabouts or this case can call Green Bay Police at (920) 448-3200 and reference case #22-257268.
