BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Brown County is hosting a community planning meeting next Wednesday to discuss the H.J. DeBaker Eagles Nest Park and Boat Launch.
Brown County purchased the land for approximately $1 million in 2020. State and federal grants were used to cover the cost.
Located at 3263 Nicolet Drive in Green Bay, the land previously belonged to Eagle’s Nest Supper Club.
“This property will be placed into public recreation for generations to follow, and that is important for the quality of life and economic growth within our county” Parks Director Matt Kriese said in a news release.
The property is anticipated to provide recreational amenities and improve the look of the area.
However, some community members oppose the plan, concerned about potential traffic and property value. Nearly 170 community members signed a petition against the development last April.
According to Kriese, the meeting is intended to be an opportunity for community members to provide feedback to county officials. He explained, “We are stewards of public land for a brief moment in time, it is important to hear from our citizens and users on what makes the most sense for future development.”
The community planning meeting will take place on June 29 at 5 p.m. in the Resch Expo’s 2nd floor event space. A virtual option will be available and accessible on the Brown County Parks’ website and Facebook page.
