GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Wisconsin Public Service and WE Energies are celebrating another successful year of Peregrine Falcon conservation.
Officials there say 11 more chicks hatched this year at WPS or We Energies facilities. Since starting the program 29 years ago, 421 falcons have hatched at their nesting boxes, according to a recent report.
“Since 1992, 20% of all the peregrine falcons born in the state of Wisconsin have been born inside a WPS or We Energies nest box,” WPS’s Matt Cullen told WTAQ.
Upon being born each bird is named and banded.
“Falcons like ‘Creampuff’ and ‘Blaze’, who were born at our facilities last year, have already been spotted in the wild.”
There was once concern that the bird would become extinct.
