GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Above is what the city of Green Bay’s logo looks like now, with the arc of the Leo Frigo bridge in the background and the bay beach dome front and center, but some say it’s time for a change.
Lots of discussion happened Tuesday inside the Green Bay City Hall Council Chamber both for and against a rebranding initiative.
In the end, a vote decided to advance a request for proposal, meaning the city will contract services with a brand consultant to lead the rebranding strategy.
District 9 Alder Brian Johnson thinks changes need to be made, but not at a fast pace.
“I think the logo is outdated, it’s busy at the end of the day I think what we have to make a decision about is does it matter. And those are some of the conversations that we have to engage in, that we have to engage in our community with.”
Green Bay Mayor Erich Genrich was hoping to move forward with the initiative, saying it’s been a long time since Green Bay has looked at how it presents itself.
“Things have changed pretty dramatically since the last time we’ve had this discussion in the community. Going on nearly 20 years since we’ve taken a look at how we present ourselves both within the community and the world at large.”
Meanwhile District 4 Alder Bill Galvin says Green Bay needs to do a better job of attracting business.
“I think Green Bay can do a better job of putting on an open sign. The only way we have good chance of controlling taxes is by expanding and growing, need to do a better job of that.”
While overall the council seemed interested in what a new logo would look like, at this point they held off on allocating any funds.
