FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A second person has been charged in Fond du Lac County with voting in last year’s election.
Anthony J. Van Egtern, 40, is charged with voting by a disqualified person on Nov. 3, 2020.
Prosecutors say Van Egtern was on probation for a 2018 criminal conviction, making him ineligible to vote. His probation ended on Dec. 11, a little more than a month after the election.
Online court records show he was convicted of possessing THC, the active component of marijuana, in Ozaukee County.
The criminal complaint says Van Egtern admitted voting illegally at the Taycheedah Town Hall, telling investigators “he voted because he thought it was important to vote and the country was going to hell.”
The criminal complaint does not say who Van Egtern voted for.
If convicted, Van Egtern faces up to three and a half years in prison. He is due in court Dec. 7.
The other man to be charged with voting illegally, Donald Holz, is scheduled to appear in court next month for a preliminary hearing.
