GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The people behind the Jerry Parins Cruise for Cancer have donated $155,000 to eight different cancer organizations throughout Northeast Wisconsin.
The money was split between HSHS St. Vincent/St. Mary’s Foundaton, Bellin Health Foundation, Unity Hospice, HSHS St. Vincent’s Child Life, Colton’s Cure, Ovarian Cancer Community Outreach, Ribbon of Hope Foundation, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The money was raised on last year’s ride.
Dixie Kinnard is with Vandervest Harley-Davidson, she says the money goes to organizations that work to make things easier for cancer patients.
“It will be for different things, like sometimes child life, for example, will ask for money to buy equipment, like it might be a video game that kids can play while they’re getting treatment.” explained Kinnard. “One year they had where they would make superhero capes and they would put patches on every time the kids got a treatment done. So different things like that.”
It’s the 18th year for the Jerry Parins Cruise for Cancer. It’s named after former Green Bay Police officer, Packers Director of Security, and cancer survivor Jerry Parins.
“Each year we donate around $150,000 dollars,” Kinnard added.
It’s raised over $2 million since its onset. This year’s ride will be on August 1st, and will be escorted by the Green Bay Police Department on a ride through the
city of Green Bay, Allouez, and Bay Settlement.
