KENOSHA, WI (Wisconsin Radio Network) – In Kenosha County, bail for accused shooter Kyle Rittenhouse was set at $2-million.
Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger noted the teen’s defense team had strenuously argued against his extradition from Illinois, to face charges in the fatal August shootings of two men. “I take that all to mean that the defendant doesn’t want to be here, and if released won’t come back.”
Mark Richards, the Illinois teen’s defense attorney, said: “The self defense claim in this case is overwhelming. It’s on videotape.” He argued for $750,000 with electronic monitoring. Richards says his client had a flaming chemical compound thrown at him, and was about to be beaten with a skateboard by a demonstrator.
And Court Commissioner Loren Keating agreed that high bond “is reasonable and necessary, and sufficient at this juncture to secure the appearance of Mr. Rittenhouse.”
The 17-year-old is accused of fatally shooting 36-year-old Joseph Rosenbaum and 26-year-old Anthony Huber, and wounding a third man during a night of unrest in August, following the shooting of Jacob Blake by Kenosha police.
