(WTAQ-WLUK) — An Outagamie County judge is moving to the state appeals court.
Gov. Tony Evers announced Monday that he has appointed Judge Emily Lonergan to the Court of Appeals – District III. She will succeed Presiding Judge Lisa K. Stark, who is retiring.
Lonergan will inherit a term ending July 31, 2029.
“Judge Lonergan is a well-respected jurist with years of experience, integrity, and a passion for the law,” Evers said in a news release. “She will serve the District III Court of Appeals well.”
Lonergan has been on the Outagamie County bench since 2019. She previously worked as a criminal defense and personal injury attorney with firms in Appleton and Milwaukee.
“I am honored to succeed Judge Lisa Stark on the Court of Appeals District III,” Lonergan said in a news release. “Judge Stark has served for thirteen years on the Court of Appeals and has earned a reputation for the highest level of judicial excellence. I am grateful to Gov. Evers for this appointment. It is my plan, as an appellate court judge, to continue my commitment to listening with an open mind and to make decisions based upon the rule of law, in order to ensure that everyone is treated with fairness.”
Lonergan’s appointment creates a vacancy in Outagamie County. Application details can be found on Evers’ website. The new judge will inherit a term ending July 31, 2028.
