GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Rick Crosson has won the Democratic primary for Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District, advancing to the November general election and an uphill battle against Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Tony Wied.
The Associated Press called the race for Crosson early Wednesday. With nearly all votes counted, Crosson had about 35 percent of the vote, finishing ahead of Mark Scheffler and Katrina deVille in the three-way primary.
Crosson, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, entered the congressional race in 2025 after previously serving on the Green Bay Area Public School District Board of Education. When announcing his campaign, Crosson said he wanted an extended campaign to give him time to connect with voters throughout the district. He has also touted his experience running businesses and said that background taught him how to bring people together to accomplish measurable goals.
Crosson will face Wied in the Nov. 3 general election. Wied won the seat in 2024, defeating Democrat Kristin Lyerly 57.3% to 42.6%.
Democrats face a historical challenge in the district. The party has not won Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District seat since 2008.
