(Corrects story to reflect that Reuters could not immediately verify the source of the reported booms)
DUBAI, July 16 (Reuters) – The Dubai Media Office said on Thursday there had been no sounds of explosions in downtown Dubai, after witnesses earlier reported hearing booms in the area.
In its original story about the reported booms, Reuters did not disclose that it could not immediately verify the reason for the sounds.
Reuters earlier withdrew its original report.
Since February loud noises in Dubai and other Gulf states have signalled missile and drone interceptions, often without resulting in any damage on the ground. Following the booms on Thursday, there was no sign of damage and the authorities also reported no activity.
