(WTAQ-WLUK) — Brown County prosecutors say they are not yet prepared to make a decision on charges against Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs.
“Our office has requested additional investigation, as there is reason to believe that additional evidence may exist that would impact whether criminal charges are appropriate, and what charges would be issued,” District Attorney David Lasee said in a statement. “Mr. Jacobs will be released from custody at this time, and a final charging decision will be made by our office at a later date.”
Brown County jail records show Jacobs was booked on potential charges including strangulation and suffocation and domestic battery.
“Josh vehemently denies the allegations, and this matter is in the early stages of investigation with important evidence that has not yet been made public,” Jacobs’ attorneys said in a statement Tuesday. “We ask for fairness and restraint while the judicial process takes its course.”
The Packers organization released a statement Tuesday, saying, “We are aware of the matter involving Josh Jacobs. As it is an ongoing legal situation, we will withhold further comment.”
In a news conference after team practice Wednesday, head coach Matt LaFleur said he would not elaborate beyond the organization’s statement.
LaFleur said there are always high standards for conduct in the Packers organization.
“I think our guys have done a really good job over the course of, at least my time here,” he said. “I think (general manager Brian Gutekunst) and his staff do a great job of valuing character and bringing in really good people.”
Regarding the running back position, LaFleur said he likes the players currently on the team.
“Certainly, you can never have enough,” he said.
