GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new public health vending machine in downtown Green Bay is aiming to make the community healthier and safer.
Officials unveiled the machine Monday outside the YMCA’s Ferguson Family branch, located on the Pine Street side of the building. It will be accessible 24/7 and all its contents are free and can be taken anonymously.
Available items include:
- Narcan and fentanyl test strips for overdose prevention
- Basic hygiene items like toothpaste and soap
- First aid essentials like bandages and wound care supplies
- Personal care products like feminine hygiene supplies and hand sanitizer
The YMCA says the machine “is part of a growing movement toward practical, stigma-free public health solutions.” It’s designed to remove financial and social barriers and help families in the Green Bay area who might not otherwise have access to such resources.
Officials say the ultimate goal is to “reduce harm, promote safety, and meet people where they are—with dignity and compassion.”
Funding from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services made the project possible.
“We are excited and encouraged by the installation of the public health vending machine in our community,” said Green Bay Metro Fire Chief Matthew Knott in a news release.
The basic necessities, safety equipment, and potentially life-saving medications located in these machines will go a long way to make our community healthier and safer.
The YMCA is asking local residents and community partners to help stock the vending machine with hygiene, first aid and essential care supplies. If you would like to donate, contact enews@greenbayymca.org.
