GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Green Bay’s former Fire Station #1 would be remodeled into a multi-tenant commercial building, according to a proposal by a developer.
The city moved operations from the building due to its condition. Firefighters were moved to Station #2, and administrative staff is in temporary spaces. The city plans to build a new fire station and apartment complex on South Broadway.
As for structure at 501 S. Washington Street, MOWGS LLC submitted a plan for retail and office space at the site, with existing exterior of the structure remaining intact.
“The first floor of the structure will be converted to support commercial uses, which shall be limited to retail, establishments serving food and/or beverages (such as a coffee shop or restaurant), or other commercial uses expressly approved in writing by the Redevelopment Authority. The second floor of the structure will be converted into office space,” the background developed by city staff states.
The city would sell the site for $1 and provide up to $2.25 million in TIF assistance. When finished, the then-taxable property would generate $19,200 in real estate taxes each year, the summary states.
The Redevelopment Authority will review the issue at 3 p.m. Thursday. The meeting is in room 604 of City Hall, 100 N. Jefferson Street.
