SUAMICO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Emergency crews responded to an ice rescue in the 4200 block of Bayside Rd. just before 4:45 p.m. Monday.
When crews arrived they heard a man calling for help. By the time crews reached the man, he was unresponsive.
First responders performed CPR while out on the ice, and again on shore.
Suamico Fire Chief Joe Bertler says the man walked through a neighbor’s yard to reach the ice in order to fish.
Life-saving measures were performed on the man and he was taken to the hospital.
He urged the public to allow the ice to thicken before going out to ice fish.
The ice is very thin. Obviously no ice is always safe. But we advise you, till we get some good strong ice to wait until the ice is a little bit thicker than it is now.
Experts also urge caution saying early ice is not fully formed.
