GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Brown County Library is distancing itself from an upcoming N.E.W. PrideAlive event.
In a now-deleted Facebook post, N.E.W. Pride Alive advertised a “Drag Story Time” event for Sept. 21. The post included a photo of the Brown County Library’s Bookmobile.
However, library officials say that was a mistake, and the Bookmobile is in no way affiliated with the N.E.W. Pride event.
Jayme Sellen, president of the Brown County Library Board, issued this statement at their board meeting Thursday:
The Brown County Library is not affiliated in any way with the September 21 N.E.W. Pride Alive event, nor with the event’s story time activities.
At Thursday’s meeting, the board said on that same day — Sept. 21 — the Bookmobile will be at Heritage Hill State Park for a children’s event.
A Brown County official said that county supervisors and employees received many phone calls from people who were upset about the post.
In a social media post Monday, N.E.W. Pride publicized the full schedule for the two-day N.E.W. Pride 2024 event.
According to the post, individuals attending the first night of the event on Friday, Sept. 20 must be at least 21 years old.
However, all ages are welcome on the festival’s second day, which includes “a heartwarming Drag Story Time with readings by Anita Bobbypin and Ellah Maeaux.”
