APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Jay Scott pleaded not guilty Monday to charges he carjacked a woman and her young child in a mall parking lot, driving off with the two of them in the vehicle.
Scott, 51, made a speedy trial demand, which requires trial to start within 90 days.
A Jan. 23 trial date was then scheduled on six counts, including kidnapping, armed robbery and carjacking.
Scott’s request to reduce the $500,000 cash bond was denied.
According to the criminal complaint, Scott approached a woman and her four-year-old child in a parking lot at a Grand Chute mall. He showed a knife, took her car keys, then drove off with the two in the vehicle.
The woman and child were eventually able to escape and call police. Scott was later arrested.
Scott also faces two counts of interference with a custody order from a 2020 case.
