MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Wisconsin Senate Republicans this week rejected an appointment to a state board responsible for hearing appeals of local decisions on allowing large farms to operate.
Senate Democrats urged approval of Jerry Halverson to the Livestock Siting Review Board.
Halverson is the retired Manitowoc County conservationist and has over 35 years of experience. However state agriculture groups and Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce opposed Halverson’s appointment based on his past opposition to the statewide livestock citing law.
Nominees to the board are selected by organizations representing the dairy industry, municipal and county governments and environmental groups.
