OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An Oshkosh business is supporting its city’s elementary schools by providing funding for educational field trips.
Hoffmaster Group, Inc. presented the Oshkosh Area School District (OASD) Education Foundation with a $10,000 check on Thursday.
10 elementary schools within the OASD will receive a $1,000 grant to be used this school year for fourth-grade field trips that foster academic success and serve as an extension of classroom learning.
Director of the OASD Education Foundation Theresa Duren explained that due to limited dollars available for field trips, students often have to make a contribution in order to attend.
“What this money does is, it allows all kids regardless of their ability to pay or their means, that all kids at these 10 elementary schools will be able to go on a field trip in fourth grade,” Duren said. “It’s wonderful to know that we have businesses in this community that are so committed to education and dedicated to our youth.”
Tober Moderson, plant manager at the Hoffmaster Group’s Oshkosh facility, said, “This is one of the most rewarding parts of the job. I’m really glad to work for a company like Hoffmaster that sees the value in their community and how they can go out there and do outreach.”
The 10 schools receiving a field trip donation from the Hoffmaster Group were said to be identified based on the economic needs of students and families. Those schools are:
Emmeline Cook Elementary School
Franklin Elementary School
Jefferson Elementary School
Merrill Elementary School
Oaklawn Elementary School
Read Elementary School
Roosevelt Elementary School
Shapiro STEM Academy
Washington Elementary School
Webster Stanley Elementary School
In a news release, OASD and the Hoffmaster Group said they “are excited to see the positive impact of this collaboration on the educational growth and development of these young learners.”
