MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) – Amazon’s Prime Day is coming soon and with it will come many other businesses, including scammers, looking to get your money. Wisconsin Better Business Bureau president Jim Temmer says scammers have cooked up websites that try to mimic large online retailers to try and fool you with phony links.
“And a lot of them are scams, and they take legitimate websites, photos, and descriptions, and they plug them in on their own.”
When you’re buying online, Temmer says you should always use a credit card to get the built in protections, and never pay for items with electronic checks, money orders or pay-as-you-go gift cards.
Temmer says if you see a deal on premium merchandise that seems too good to be true, it is likely a scam.
“Is there a return policy? Is there a customer service number you can call and talk to a live person? Do they have an address, if they do you know, pump it into Google Maps or something like that it might be a vacant field.”
If you’re concerned with the website, back out and try looking for that deal another way. Amazon Prime Day is July 11th & 12th.
