APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A collaboration in the Fox Cities has received a $1 million, multi-year grant to help reduce violence stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The three-year grant is funding the DRIVE Health Project, which includes leaders from N.E.W. Mental Health Connection, United Way Fox Cities, People of Progression, NEW Hmong Professionals and Partnerships Community Health Center.
The DRIVE Health Project aims to create a culturally-specific model to improve the community’s wellbeing, whether that be physical or emotional health. Specifically, the project will address unmet mental and emotional needs and suicide risk factors in the Hmong and Black communities.
“We are thrilled to bring this funding into Northeast Wisconsin, to invest in the mental health of our Black and Hmong communities, who have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic,” said Beth Clay, executive director of the N.E.W. Mental Health Connection.
The funds are from the Wisconsin Community Safety Fund, which is funded by Wisconsin’s Federal American Rescue Plan Act.
