GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Duane Waupoose was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for his role in a deadly fight on the Menominee Indian Reservation.
He was also placed on five years supervised release after that by Judge William Griesbach at Friday’s sentencing, according to a court official.
Around midnight on Jan. 31, 2021, Waupoose, joined by other people, were approached by a group looking to fight. A fight then broke out in the driveway in the School View area of the reservation.
Waupoose was shot in the fight, suffering minor injuries. He took the shotgun away from the man who shot him and chased him down the driveway and into the street.
When Waupoose caught up with the man, he repeatedly hit him in the face with the gun, causing multiple serious injuries that eventually killed the man.
Both Waupoose and the victim were enrolled members of the Menominee Indian Tribe and previously lived on the reservation.
