APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A “Moment of Remembrance” will be held after the Appleton Memorial Day Parade.
The annual parade will be held on Monday, 29 at 9 a.m. The route starts at the corner of College Avenue and Appleton Street, heads east on College Avenue to Meade Street, north on Meade Street to Pacific Street, and east on Pacific Street ending at the corner of Pacific Street and Owaissa Street.
After the parade, the “Moment of Remembrance” ceremony will be held in Appleton’s historic Riverside Cemetery, at the George D. Eggleston, G.A.R. monument – 714 North Owaissa Street. A short, second ceremony takes place after the city’s ceremony, at the Appleton American Legion Post No. 38 plot. This plot is located at the entrance of the St. Joseph Cemetery within Riverside Cemetery.
JJ Vander Loop, a 17-year-old junior at St. Francis Xavier High School, is honored to deliver the keynote address at this year’s “Moment of Remembrance” ceremony. He is a varsity member of the speech and debate team and mock trial. JJ is passionate about politics, history, and racecars. Vander Loop is humbled by the opportunity to memorialize our fallen servicemen and women this Memorial Day.
In addition, the 72nd Appleton Flag Day Parade is scheduled for June 10, 2023.
