MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Wisconsin residents with more than $1 million in adjusted gross income would get an average tax cut of over $100,000 under a Republican flat tax plan.
Jason Stein with the the Wisconsin Policy Forum says that’s a big difference from the plan offered by Democratic Governor Tony Evers.
“The Evers plan has a very different approach, in that it would actually increase taxes on upper income earners.” said Stein.
Those high earners would see an average tax hike of nearly $40,000 under the Evers plan.
Stein says budget writers in the Legislature will likely have a tough time finding a compromise between the two.
