CALUMET COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An airplane made an emergency landing near High Cliff State Park Monday afternoon after its engine failed.
Shortly after noon on Monday, Green Bay’s Austin Straubel airport received report of a failed engine from a plane that had departed from Appleton. Air traffic then lost contact with the pilot — the only person in the plane — and the last known whereabouts were south of Stockbridge.
The Calumet County Sheriff’s Office and Stockbridge crews began searching for the plane before finding out that the pilot had landed on private property in Stockbridge.
The 63-year-old pilot from Illinois was not injured, according to the sheriff’s office.
He was operating a single engine airplane, traveling back to Illinois.
The pilot says his engine quit working roughly 10 minutes after taking off. He was able to land the plane on a snow-covered field.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
