FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A second teen has died as a result of a weekend crash.
St. Mary’s Springs Academy notified parents Wednesday that Tommy Koenigs died. He was a sophomore at the school.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office has not confirmed Koenigs’ death.
According to an obituary, 16-year-old Nevins Zoch, died Saturday. A third teen, a 16-year-old girl from Fond du Lac High School, survived the crash.
In the note to parents, Springs said the school day on Monday began with an assembly and prayer service. Trained counselors, therapy dogs, snacks and bottled water were available to students. An employee assistance program was available for faculty and staff members. The school also plans to hold a memorial service on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Fond du Lac boys hockey team held a fundraiser to benefit Koenigs’ family.
A makeshift memorial has grown at the scene of the crash.
Authorities believe the vehicle had been speeding westbound on Golf Course Drive in the town of Taycheedah, lost control, and entered the north shoulder, striking a tree on the north side of the road.
The sheriff’s department says alcohol was also a factor in the crash.
