FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — One of the alleged ringleaders of a drug distribution operation pleaded not guilty Monday.
Melvin Kemp faces two charges, manufacture and delivery of amphetamine and narcotics. No trial date was set. He returns to court March 29 for a status conference, court records show.
The investigation, which also included the state of Michigan, discovered the delivery and distribution of more than 100 pounds of meth with the street value of $1 million in 2022, as well as the early stages of a fentanyl distribution operation.
Authorities in Fond du Lac County seized 3.25 pounds of meth and 280 grams of fentanyl.
District Attorney Eric Toney says that amount of fentanyl would be enough to kill 104,000 people, that’s more than every resident in Fond du Lac County.
Ten people were charged during the investigation.
