MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Over $350,000 will be coming to Northeast Wisconsin to support multiple shelters in the area, after Gov. Tony Evers announced $2 million in grants across the state Tuesday.
Evers, along with the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority, announced that 54 organizations across the state would receive grant money from the WHEDA Foundation to support emergency shelters, transitional residences and extremely low-income houses. Of the organizations across the state, eight of those are in Northeast Wisconsin.

In Green Bay, Golden House will be receiving $50,000 for new furnishings for the shelter and the outreach services building. House of Hope in Green Bay will also be receiving $50,000 to replace damaged portions of its roof and to replace its water heaters. And NeighborWorks in Green Bay was also awarded $50,000 for bathroom renovations.
In Appleton, COTS will be receiving $50,000 to replace its HVAC system. Two projects at Pillars in Appleton received funding — $22,850 for bathroom repairs and renovations and $15,100 for upgrades to the shelter’s security system.
In Hortonville, the Outagamie County Housing Authority is set to receive $50,000 to replace its water heater and re-pipe its water lines.
The Oshkosh Kids Foundation will receive $50,00 to furnish and install water and sewer into its new, 32-unit tiny home development.
And in Shawano, Newcap will receive $12,144 for new cabinets and countertops as well as plumbing in its kitchen.
Of the $2 million awarded during this year’s cycle of the WHEDA Foundation’s Housing Grant Program, $1 million comes from WHEDA reserves and $1 million from the state’s American Rescue Plan Act funding.
Over $3.6 million was requested through the grant process this year, an indication of the high demand and need in the state, according to the governor’s office.
