GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Green Bay Police and Fire Commission has selected Matthew Knott as Green Bay Metro’s next Fire Chief. This position saw about 25 applicants, which was then narrowed down to 10, and then to two before the final decision was made.
Chief Knott has 25 years of public service in career and volunteer fire departments, as well as law enforcement; currently serving as Division Chief of the Rockford Fire Department. The Rockford Fire Department is the second largest department in Illinois, with over 300 employees across 11 stations and a 911 Center.
Rod Goldhahn, Police and Fire Commission President says he looks forward to the continuation of great service from the Green Bay Metro Fire Department.
“Officer safety is a critical issue for him, and very much so our previous chief was the same way.” said Goldhahn. “This will be a great continuation of that.”
Chief Knott holds Bachelor’s of Science and Master’s of Science Degrees from Northern Illinois University. He holds Chief Officer certifications in the Fire and EMS fields from multiple credentialing agencies, including Chief Officer designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence. He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer program, and a graduate of the International Association of Fire Chiefs Fire Service Executive Development Institute.
Knott will succeed Chief David Litton, who will be retiring at the end of the year. Knott’s start date has not yet been decided.
