MENOMINEE, MI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A fire at a recycled paper pulp mill is under control after burning all night.
Resolute Forest Products spokesman David Marshall says no one was injured in the fire. Resolute Forest Products rents the building at 701 4th Ave in Menominee.
Firefighters had to take down part of an exterior wall to access the building and fight the fire.
Smoldering continued Friday morning with smoke still billowing.
“We continue to work with emergency response to contain the fire, understand what happened and prevent it from happening again,” Marshall said in a statement. “We acted quickly, and would like to reassure local stakeholders that the safety of the community and our employees is our top priority.”
About 100 people work at the facility which makes pulp from recycled paper to be shipped to other mills for processing.
