APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — Fox Valley Technical College has received a nearly $90,000 grant from the state of Wisconsin to assist veterans with starting their own businesses.
It’s part of the Innovation Accelerator for Veterans, which is run by the FVTC’s Venture Program.
“The grant this year was for a little more than $89,000, and the money is used for tuition and fees,” said Venture Center Director Amy Pietsch. “We have room for 25 veterans in the program and have allocated $1,000 for each of those veterans.”
That $1,000 is a seed grant to help start their business upon completion of the business program.
Pietsch says several businesses in the Fox Valley started up with the help of the program.
“We’ve had a lot of businesses that have launched,” Piesch told WTAQ. “We have one opening up soon in the Fox Valley, Uni Uni Tea Shop.”
That, run by program graduate Fanni Xie, will open in downtown Appleton on May 5.
Interested veterans still have time to sign up for a session to learn more about the program. The next cohort of veterans starts April 22-24.
