NEENAH, WI (WLUK) — A lifelong Neenah resident is throwing her hat into the city’s mayor race.
Jane Lang announced her candidacy Monday.
She is the executive director of the Neenah Historical Society and has served on the Neenah City Council for nearly eight years. She’s also worked with the city on various projects for the past 12 years.
Under her leadership, the Neenah Historical Society won multiple awards for its exhibits, including an American Association for State and Local History Award of Excellence for the “Take Cover, Neenah! Backyard Family Fallout Shelters in Cold War America” exhibit. She oversees the popular Neenah cemetery walks and the annual Inter-Tribal Pow Wow at Shattuck Park. Lang currently serves on the Executive Board of the Fox Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau and received their prestigious “Destination Builder” award in 2019.
“Having a clear understanding of Neenah’s past is very important. Having an educated and informed vision for our future is equally important,” Lang said. “As a candidate for the mayor of the City of Neenah, I believe I possess the experience and the demonstrated dedication that is necessary to successfully move Neenah forward.”
In addition to serving on Neenah’s City Council, Lang serves on the Public Services and Safety Committee (vice-chair), the city’s Plan Commission (vice-chair), the mayor’s representative on the Downtown Business Improvement District board, the Landmarks Commission (chair), and the Neenah Arts Council.
“I have gained valuable experience and amassed knowledge about the inner-workings of municipalities during my time on the city council and want to take that knowledge and use it to guide the city forward. I have been and will continue to be focused on making Neenah a great place for all to live and work,” she said.
Last month, Neenah mayor Dean Kaufert said he will not seek re-election in spring.
Alderman Brian Borchardt and Kelly Behrmann have also announced their candidacy in the race.
