ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) — For 50 years, Goodwill has called itself the “Halloween Headquarters”, and now that people are buying costumes again after COVID-19 canceled trick-or-treats and Halloween parties last year, they’re taking advantage.
“Last year people were still shopping for decor,” said Gabrielle Dorn with Goodwill of North Central Wisconsin. “They still wanted to celebrate the season and feel like the holiday was still there, but we’re seeing more costumes this year.”
This year, people are still going for the classics: clowns, aliens, cowboys, superheroes, murderers, and murdering clowns–but a few other things are sneaking in.
“Something cool we’ve seen is, like, The Weeknd, [the singer],” Dorn explained. “Because all you need is a red blazer, a black polo, a tie, and maybe some bandages, and then you have yourself a costume.”

If you don’t feel like putting on a repeat of the last Super Bowl Halftime show, however, Dorn says there still ought to be something there for you.
“I guess you could say it’s more do-it-yourself [here], but you also have the ready-made costumes that you can get at other places,” said Dorn. “But here you get those at a fraction of the cost, and the purchases go back to support the local community with job training and other opportunities.”
Dorn says that they keep a list of Halloween costume ideas update online at the website, goodwillncw.org.
